8/25/05 Thursday's MLB Picks (3)
New York Mets -175 over Arizona Diamondbacks (1.0 Units)
We had got to be crazy for not taking the Mets yesterday. Seo has been
pitching great and Russ Ortiz had lost his previous 5 or 6 starts for
the Dbacks. We missed that one completely. Anyways, going for road
teams looking for a 4-game sweep if they won their previous two games
by more than 1 run is 20-6 over the past 7 seasons if they are a
favorite better than -130. If better than -160, they are 9-1. With
Pedro Martinez on the mound and the Diamondbacks struggling
offensively, we have got to like the Mets today because we see their
bats scoring 14 and 18 runs in the past two games. We know backing
teams off double digit performances have been bad this season but the
Mets are two games back in the wild card. Use Pedro Martinez as a
Listed Pitcher.
Cleveland Indians -130 over Tampa Bay Devil Rays (1.0 Units)
Same system that helped us pick the Cardinals 8-3 winner yesterday at
work today. The Indians, in the AL Wild Card race lost yesterday by 10
runs to the Devil Rays. We expect the Indians to come back motivated
by their playoff hopes but also from their loss yesterday. As we
mentioned earlier that going against teams scoring double digit runs
has been money this season. The Indians are 6-1 in Cliff Lee's past 7
starts.
Minnesota Twins -110 over Chicago White Sox (1.5 Units)
The White Sox did great yesterday but the truth of the matter is that
they have been struggling with a 2-8 record L10. The Twins are still
8-2 L10. We expect the Twins to take it to these White Sox as they
start to see themselves only 2.5 games back in the Wild Card.
