10/01/2005 Saturday's MLB Picks
Boston Redsox +136 over New York Yankees (2,0 Units)
Great value. The Red Sox should be -110. I understand that Tim Wakefield is on 3 days rest but remember the Red Sox will open up their bullpen if he gets in any kind of trouble. Anyways, the Red Sox are at home and Tim Wakefield always plays the Yankees tough. He should be okay. The Red Sox have been playing lefties extremely well as of late. In their last 11 home starts versus lefties, the Red Sox are 10-1 winning those games on average of 2.5 runs. They averaged 7.45 runs per game in those 11 games. Randy Johnson is going to get all of the love because he had a 1 hitter against the Red Sox in his last start and has whooped them all season. It is okay, this is the day that the Red Sox get Randy Johnson back because they have him at home. He is a big game pitcher but in a tight game like this, getting the Red Sox at +135 is just incredible.
Chicago White Sox +150 over Cleveland Indians (1.5 Units)
I hope you all laid off the Indians yesterday. I did not make it clear but in my writeup I explained how I expected the spread to be small home favorites but the bookies are smart and knew that the whole betting public would be all over the Indians. 80% were on Cleveland even at -180. Imagine if the Indians were only -120 as I expected. Anyways, the betting public will be all over the Indians again because they are coming off a loss but just as in yesterday are going up a pretty good pitcher. The White Sox at +150 is pretty good especially since they have a tough righty on the mound and these Indians are not all that great versus righties.
Seattle Mariners +120 over Oakland Athletics (1.5 Units)
Going against these Athletics. They failed to score well on the road versus a lefty yesterday and they will probably fail to score on the road today. They hit righties pretty good too but in a game that does not really matter too much and no significant advantage (or disadvantage) either way, getting these Mariners at home as dogs is pretty good.
Arizona Diamondbacks -115 over San Francisco Giants (1.0 Units)
Let us back these Diamondback again as they got the win yesterday. The Giants had all that momentum when Bonds was in the lineup and we are starting to see them fall without it. These Diamondbacks overtook them for second place not too long ago. I do not know what to expect from Vazquez. In his first start against the Giants, he had 8 shutout innings. In his second start gave up 4 ER in 5 innings. I think with the Giants offense starting to struggle and desire no longer there to play hard, Vazquez might just have another strong performance against these Giants.
San Diego Padres -120 over Los Angeles Dodgers (1.0 Units)
Got to go against these Dodgers, they simply cannot hit any more. The team is really going into a real lull. Neither pitcher is any good but at least the Padres are getting ready for the Playoffs and are trying to build up momentum. Their manager mentioned wanting to finish above 500. Those Dodgers have nothing to play for not even to play hard to beat their rival. These Padres have the edge.
