10/16/2005 2 Sunday's MLB Picks
Los Angeles Angels +121 over Chicago White Sox (1.0 Units)
On paper, I would honestly say that these Angels have a slightly better probability of winning today than they did yesterday based on the fact that Paul Byrd is pitching and not Ervin Santana. I would also say that based on the fact that Contreras and Garcia are both beasts and I would make them equivalent. So if that is the case, why are we seeing a +121 Angels team today but saw a -125 team yesterday. This is just crazy but is obviously a reaction to the betting public. The public is favoring these strong winded White Sox but I am not giving up on these Angels. I mean, we are talking about a team that went 20-6 +10.50 Units off a loss at home versus right handed pitching in the regular season. Of course, aren't the Angels 0-2 in that spot in this series?
Houston Astros +115 over St. Louis Cardinals (1.5 Units)
We are looking at a postseason matchup where the home teams have won 9 of 10 games dating back to last year. Yesterday, the obvious lean was towards Clemens but the spread on the Astros was locked in exactly correct but today I feel they have it wrong. I think the Cardinals should be +115. Backe had a superb performance at home in last season's postseason against the Cardinals. With them brimming with confidence, I feel these Astros take the 3-1 lead just like the White Sox. The difference here is that these Astros get to do it at home in a series dominated by the home team.
