9/5/05 Monday's MLB Pick (1)
Just one pick for Labor Day.
San Francisco Giants +145 over Los Angeles Dodgers (1.0 Units)
The Padres better watch out because the Giants are on a roll. The Giants 5 game winning streak has them 11 games below 500 but only 5.5 games behind with 7 games against the Padres. The Giants, if they are going to make any kind of a run, will have to start winning these divisional games. The Giants are an above 500 team against the West. In fact, all of the NL West teams play about 500 in the division except for the Rockies whom all of them beat up on. Nevertheless, we see these Giants in a strong motivated position against their most hated rival. It is not okay to expect the Giants as +145 today. They should be +110 at worst. Derek Lowe is a decent pitcher but the Dodgers have lost his past 3 home starts. He had not been pitching well until his last start against the Cubs where he had a CG shutout hurling 115 pitches. He is on 4 days rest off of a CG. The Giants have lost 5 of Hennessy's past 6 starts but they are coming on strong as of late and with their bullpen not overworked, I expect them to use it if necessary to get the early series win.
