9/17/2005 Saturday's MLB Picks (2)
Two picks for today.
St. Louis Cardinals over Chicago Cubs (1.5 Units)
Listed pitcher: Mark Mulder. The spread is unknown right now so I recommend taking this game only if the Cardinals are not favored by more than -130. They can be dogs. We would not mind. You see, the Cubs suck against lefties at home as they are only 8-15 in that spot. I have to say that Mulder is by far a better pitcher than Greg Maddux but name recognition will go far for him and will cause the spread to be really good in our favor. The Cardinals are 12-3 on the road after a road loss against the same team it lost to. Combine the pitching advantage as well as the situational advantage and we have a play for the Cardinals.
Philadelphia Phillies +155 over Florida Marlins (1.5 Units)
This is just another one of those value plays we have. The Phillies deserve at least some respect to not be +155, come on now. Dontrelle Willis is pitching and we are bound to see a skewed line. Yesterday we went against Felix from Seattle, Peavy from San Diego, and Zach Duke and came away with 3 dog winners whose spreads were bloated only because of pitcher names. Of course we lost the Blue Jays, Marlins, Brewers yesterday for similar reasons. Anyways, the Phillies are 7-3 versus division rivals if facing a lefty. Small sample size anyways but they reallly do hit lefties better than they do righties. So that just shows that Dontrelle would not necessarily be guaranteed a shut out. I think the Phillies score a few runs. With them busting for so many runs yesterday, let's hope for that to continue.
