9/24/05 Saturday's MLB Picks
Philadelphia Phillies -148 over Cincinnati Reds (1.0 Units)
Let's go against these Reds today as they blew 5 runs yesterday to lose 11-10. This keeps the Phillies strong in the Wild Card hunt. This is not the first time this has ever happened. The Reds blew 5 runs to the Cardinals earlier in the season and followed that off by losing 6 straight. The Reds have really nothing much to play for. This is a non-divisional rivalry game so we do not see any reason for them to have a comeback game. I expect these Phillies to walk over the Reds and get another win.
Minnesota Twins +180 over Chicago White Sox (1.5 Units)
There is still value betting on these Twins over the White Sox. Even in the White Sox's wins, they are not scoring much. Still, their wins have been hard to come by too. They should not be -210. The Twins are a formidable foe right now so let us take the +180 value knowing that they should be +140 based on respect for Freddy Garcia and home field advantage. Nothing more.
Houston Astros +165 over Chicago Cubs (1.5 Units)
This is a huge line for these Astros. The Cubs have not been hitting well. Have not been scoring well. The truth is that they are always overvalued. The Cubs are -16 Units at home this season. The Astros are playing great ball just as the Phillies. People are betting up the spread for the Cubs because Zambrano is pitching but they do not have a 60+% chance of winning.
