9/28/05 Wednesday's MLB Picks
The Yankees blew it for us again.
5 picks for today. Four of them big dogs so it is a high risk day for us although we are on a 8-4 run over the past 3 days.
Washington Nationals +150 over Florida Marlins (1.5 Units)
These Marlins put up 11 runs yesterday. Check the standings and you will see that this game is for last place of the NL East. Haha, with their records, they would have sole possession of first place in the NL West. These Marlins were in the playoff hunt as late as a few days ago but they have lost 5 games in a row. Their season is over and they know it. They committed 3 errors yesterday and really had no heart, passion, interest to play. Their minds were out of it. These Nationals at +150 is a gift. Take them.
New York Mets +158 over Philadelphia Phillies (1.5 Units)
We backed these Mets two games in a row and came up winners. In fact we are 3-0 backing them the past 2 weeks. Why change when you see them as +158 dogs. The public sees the Phillies as huge favorites because they are at home and in a playoffs race. No reason for them to be -170, that is crazy. The only thing I see is that they have the home field advantage and nothing more. Huge value in the line.
Baltimore Orioles +190 over New York Yankees (1.5 Units)
We expected Bruce Chen to have trouble yesterday. As a lefty, he is very susceptable to the bats of Sheffield ( .370 vs. L) and Matsui's (.345 vs. L) and the others have been playing well anyways like A. Rod, Jeter, Giambi. Our second straight time using this argument to back the Yankees off of Lefties and two consecutive losers. Anyways, we see a very inflated line here at +190 for the Orioles but for reasons that make sense. The Yankees are in a playoff hunt and are playing extremely well. They are coming off of a loss. Shawn Chacon is also off two consecutive shutouts in the past 10 days. But pay attention, his two starts were against the Blue Jays and he is going to face a very tough Orioles lineup. Just like the Tigers would love nothing more than to play spoiler.
Boston Redsox -225 over Toronto Blue Jays (1.0 Units)
This is our only favorite on tap for today and it is a good one. The Red Sox played a Double Header yesterday and lost the last game. Of all the losses this season, that has to be the toughest for them to take. The Yankees lost yesterday and they had a shot of distancing themselves but didn't. The Red Sox are 15-4 at home off of a home loss. They were 20-4 last year in that spot. 17-7 the year before. This is a trend for them. Their bats will come alive with a vengeance today and they have Bronson Arroyo on the mound. Good value even at -225 but get this game early.
Detroit Tigers +158 over Chicago White Sox (1.5 Units)
We backed these Tigers two days in a row and have decided to go ahead again! The White Sox are struggling and parts of their struggles were masked out when they beat the Twins 3 games in a row but you must understand that those games were at home. This is a road game against a very motivated underdog that would love nothing but to play the spoiler. They won two games in a row by exactly one run and we expect them to squeak out another win against these White Sox as they struggle to score.
