Upcoming Deadline Set for Marlins’ Move
It is no secret that San Antonio is trying to lure the Florida Marlins into packing up and moving to Texas. However, with nothing being firm with a deal, a Texas judge says he is setting a May 15th deadline for the team to consider. The whole issue needs quick attention due to the manner in which the city of San Antonio will pay their portion of the moving and establishing costs. The city is planning to ask voters to extend a heftier tax on hotels and car rentals in order to pay for the team being moved into their community.
The judge claims he needs to know what the team plans to do, so he and his team can work out details to present to the public. The deadline for the proposal to get onto the November ballot is mid August and the judge claims they need all of the time they can get to finalize the details. With everyone waiting to see what will happen, MLB President Bob DuPuy claims he would rather see the team stay in Florida, however he is not against the team moving either. If the team is not prepared to address the issue by the deadline, there is little chance the team will be moving this year.
