Boston Red Sox Betting Trends Part 1 of 3
Baseball is not a widely followed sport as far as betting is concerned. As a result, many profitable betting angles and trends stay valid for a long time because Vegas has no incentive to adjust the odds to their true value.
As far as the Boston Red Sox are concerned, people are going to bet on them. They will look at their hitting lineup and say "Gosh! This team is great." Then they will look at whoever is pitching that day and say "Got to bet on the Red Sox today."
In fact, most baseball handicappers focus most of their attention on the pitching and hitting dynamics so much so that they miss out on some very profitable trends.
In the "Boston Red Sox: 2006 Baseball Betting Preview" article that I wrote, I focused on how great the Boston Red Sox were at home and how bad they were on the road.
In particular, the Red Sox are not very prepared on the road in their first game of a series. Betting against them in that spot was 17-8, +12 units in the 2005 baseball season. Over the past 3 years, this trend is 42-34, +17 units.
So as we dawn on the 2006 Season, make sure you focus on the dynamics of each game instead of blindly handicapping pitching-hitting stats.
