While researching MLB Spring Training, you may wonder to yourself who is emerging as the best players of the year. Everyone seems to agree that although there are quite a few stars of the season, David Wright of the Mets is one that should be watched closely. Wright is the 23-year-old Mets third baseman. Last year he held the top batting average on the team with .306 and RBIs totaling 102. In addition to his great skill productions, he is one of the fan favorites. He seems to love the attention however and stays very grounded and nice throughout everything. He is the all around nice guy in MLB 2006. Anytime the media tries to pay him a compliment, he turns it into one for the whole team.
He is constantly commented on the accomplishments of those around him. He hails the veterans of the sport and the entire Mets franchise. He seems to love every aspect of the team he is on and plays with every inch of his soul each time he hits the field. He has been likened to many players, but there is likely none that will ever grace the sport at such an early age, with such dignity.
After a while, you start to wonder if this guy is for real. According to insiders, he is honestly a genuine player and human being who is thankful for the opportunity he is being handed. He respects the veteran players, jokes around with the media, and smiles big for the fans. Wright is one of those players the Mets need, although he would never agree. Chances are he would tell you that instead of the Mets needing him, he needs the Mets. While both are likely true, the Mets will probably get the attention they deserve this year with partial thanks going to David Wright.
