I had a discussion with my partner Kris Lazaro not too long ago about the impact that football has on baseball odds. We concluded after our discussion and some research that the baseball odds change once the football season starts.
Now you may wonder why two completely different sports can be at all related as far as the odds are concerned. Well, the condept and idea as to why is very much apart of the nature of gambling and Vegas. Football is the sport that Vegas gets most of its handle. In fact, there are a large number of gamblers that lose a lot of money during the football season. The problem with novice gamblers is that they feel they need to get their money back but because football is only played on the weekend, the bettors need to get a fix during the week.
Enter baseball. The fix for bettors is baseball. In fact, the majority of gamblers looking to get their money back will focus on the favorites in the baseball season knowing that they have the highest likelihood of paying out. They are betting for the short term and not for the long term value in any of the plays.
As a result, there is an added value to be had during the football season when you are looking to bet baseball underdogs. Since we are betting for the long haul, we know that we can ride out losing streaks because by the end of the regular 162 game season, we know we will be pocketing plenty of money.
As we enter the football season again in September, watch for the ridiculous -260 spreads on some of the favorites, you might get a very profitable dog out of it.
