Picks for 8/8/09

Result: +2.00 units

San Francisco Giants (-142) over Cincinnati Reds (2.0 Units) -

The Giants are a wonderful pick today. These Giants are having a great season but it is being drowned out by the Dodgers and the Phillies (in the NL). And because they do not have a high betting profile as the Cubs, Dodgers, Yankees, or Red Sox, they'll hardly ever be a large favorite. So even though they should be at about -200 today, we get them at -140. That is about 60 points of value.

Proof positive of the fact that they've been undervalued all season is that they are 37-17, +18 units at home... meaning that they are undervalued at about 33 points a game at home.

Their poor performance on the road drowns down their overall record to the point that their greatness at home can fly a bit under the radar.

They've been able to rack up the majority of their units in non-divisional rival games like today.

With these Giants coming off a home loss, we expect them to bounce back in a big way today. Their offense has really been moving and Bronson Arroyo is the right pitcher for them to go against. The Reds have lost each of Arroyo's last three starts, 6 of 8, 9 of 12.

We'll bet this game 2 units if Arroyo is on the mound but if he is not, take it for just 1 unit.
