Picks for 8/10/09
Result: +0.18 units
By going 2-0 yesterday, we've bumped up our monthly total to being +1.43 units.
Today, we've got two dogs for you all.
Cincinnati Reds (153) over St. Louis Cardinals (1.0 Units) -
The Reds have a tendency to always play the Cardinals tough no matter how good or bad they are as a team. There was a point in time in the season that we thought they had a chance. They were 40-41 in the first 81 games of the season but are 8-21 since then. They are pretty much out of it but a game against the Cardinals would get them to play better than they have in recent times. They are -8 units in non-divisional rival games, -3 units in interleague games but +1.4 units in divisional rival games.
The pitcher angles are also on the Reds' side. The Cardinals are 5-10 in Lohse's games, including 0-2 against the Reds. And the Reds are 7-5, +3 units in Cueto's road starts.
Take this game action on a Lohse vs Cueto matchup.

Seattle Mariners (118) over Chicago White Sox (1.0 Units) -
The Mariners are definitely a team you want to watch out for right now. They are 8 games behind in the AL West but are 4.5 games behind in the wild card race. The Red Sox just got swept by the Yankees and the Rangers-Angels battled it out this past weekend. So all this should wake up the Mariners today if they have a chance.
So we'll give them the benefit of the doubt because they are playing at home and despite the fact that they are not really racking up the wins, they are averaging 5.6 runs a game L10 and 7 runs a game L5.
