Rockies [107] versus Astros (1.0 Units) - Going for the Rockies for similar reasoning as we went for the Phillies yesterday. They are on a string of losses and off being shut out. The Rockies are much better to begin a series. They are -0.70 units but contrast with the end of a series where they are -26.7 units. So not only are they prepared early on, these Astros are coming off a long road swing back home. And you know how we consider that as a go against angle. I mean these Astros were on the road and playing divisional rivals now they travel home playing a meaningless game the last week of the season. Didn't really expect much from them today.
Twins [-102] versus Mariners (1.0 Units) - This is not a popular game to play. These Twins have had 4 wins since 8/21/11. But we like taking bad teams in what would be considered the "perfect" time to bounceback. The Twins, for such a bad team, in such a slump actually aren't really playing that badly lately. Their last six home games, they've averaged 4.7 runs a game. They'd only won one of those games. From Sep 4 to Sep 11, they only averaged 1.75 runs a game. Of course we never would go for them other than the fact they are at home fending off a sweep in a meaningless game they should play. In fact, we like team fending off a sweep in game 3 of a series if they lost games 1 and 2 by 1 run each. Dating back to the beginning of two seasons ago, these teams are 50-39, +20 units. But if these are HOME teams, then they improve to 50-31, +15.4 units the past 8 seasons. And it has only had one losing season during that stretch. By losing by exactly one run, you've proven yourself to be competitive. You could just as easily have been 2-0 in the series. Then add to that, the opponent already feels like they've succeeded. Road teams don't go into a series wanting to sweep their opponent, they want to win the series though. By winning 2 of 3 games, you've won the series. Think about it.. how can a team that has lost 11 straight games be -102? Looks fishy but we like it.
